About Me
Welcome! My name is Alex Evink, Registered Dietitian (RD) and moderately messy mom of two girls.
I have a Master’s degree in nutrition with over 12 years of experience. Currently, I provide nutrition counseling to patients to prevent the progression of chronic kidney disease.
I have worked on and off over the past 5 years – so I have experience as a working mom and stay-at-home mom.
I am all about evidence-based research, with a little personal experience mixed in. On this site, you will find mostly evidence-based nutrition content with some healthy recipes.
Most of the time, I am cooking on the fly with no plan except to make sure it’s a healthy, well-balanced meal.
Therefore, most of the recipes on this site are not complex or sophisticated. I do try to think of the nutritional information prior to creating a recipe – like trying to get the ideal amount of protein, fiber, vitamins, minerals and more!
The Idea Behind Moderately Messy
Moderately messy is a subjective term – where my version might be different from yours. Essentially, it just means we’re always striving for more balance amidst the chaos – however we can.
It doesn’t mean neglecting responsibilities, but rather finding a more balanced and sustainable approach to motherhood.
Balance, for me, is keeping a clutter-free home (except the playroom) most days, and trying to fit in a convenient, at-home workout whenever or however I can. I aim to cook 5 home-cooked meals a week – the other 2 days are usually spent indulging with family or friends.
I am also a notorious klutz and the butt of many family jokes – I make messes wherever I go (but I always clean them up).
My kids don’t always eat their vegetables, and I sometimes use candy to prioritize chores and self-care.
I’m a firm believer that moms should make more time for themselves and their self-care! Self-care isn’t selfish – it just makes us better moms.
My Mission
I hope to inspire other moms to find ways to prioritize their health through relatable nutrition, fitness and motherhood content.
Put yourself first a little more, and join me in embracing your version of moderately messy! It’s all about finding a balance that works for you and your family – because perfection just isn’t possible or realistic.
