This apple cinnamon baked oatmeal combines tender cinnamon apples and baked oats with a creamy protein cream cheese frosting. It’s individually portioned and baked right in your meal prep containers, so you can make four breakfasts at once.

I am so excited about this recipe! It’s like eating mini apple pies but in the form of a balanced breakfast!
The little chunks of cinnamon apple throughout the baked oats are my favorite part, especially with that slightly sweet cream cheese frosting.
Prep four servings at once, then just reheat and add the frosting on busy mornings!

Ingredients

For this recipe, I used these 30-Ounce Glass Meal Prep Containers but feel free to use any oven-safe, glass meal prep container!
- 2 cups old-fashioned rolled oats.
- 1 large apple, finely diced – about 1½ cups. Plus, more if you want to top with warm cinnamon apples. Dice the apples into small, approximately ¼-inch pieces so they soften during baking and distribute throughout the oatmeal.
- 1½ cups milk. This recipe uses skim Fairlife milk to calculate the nutritional information.
- 2 large eggs.
- 3 tablespoons maple syrup.
- 1 tablespoon melted butter.
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract.
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon.
- 1 teaspoon baking powder.
- ¼ teaspoon salt.
- Cooking spray or olive oil, to grease the containers.

For the Topping
- 1/4 cup plain Fage Greek yogurt.
- 1/2 cup softened cream cheese.
- 2 scoops (30 grams) of Naked Nutrition’s Unflavored Whey Protein Powder.
- 1 tablespoon maple syrup.
- 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon, plus more for sprinkling.
Optional
More diced apples, for topping.

Step-By-Step Directions
This apple pie baked oatmeal combines cinnamon apples, hearty oats, and a creamy protein cream cheese frosting. Baked in four individual meal prep containers, it’s an easy make-ahead breakfast – just reheat and add the frosting.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F. Spray each of the four oven-safe glass meal-prep containers with cooking spray and place them on a rimmed baking sheet.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, maple syrup, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
- Stir in the oats, cinnamon, baking powder, and salt. Fold in the finely diced apple.
- Divide the mixture among the containers using a ladle or measuring cup. Add a little to each container at a time, stirring between rounds to keep the oats, apples, and liquid evenly distributed. Divide any remaining liquid evenly among the portions and level the tops.
- Bake at 350°F, checking for doneness around 35 minutes. Continue baking as needed until the edges are set and the center no longer has loose liquid. Baking time will vary depending on the containers’ dimensions. Let rest before serving; the oatmeal will firm up as it cools.
- Meanwhile, stir or whisk together the cream cheese, Greek yogurt, protein powder, maple syrup, and cinnamon until smooth and spreadable.
- After cooling, if serving immediately, spread one-quarter of the frosting over each portion and add optional cooked cinnamon apples. Sprinkle additional cinnamon, if preferred.
- For meal prep, cover and refrigerate the oatmeal and frosting separately for up to 4 days. When ready to eat, reheat one oatmeal portion in the microwave, then spoon over roughly one-quarter of the frosting and add optional cooked cinnamon apples.
Optional Cinnamon Apples Topping
Lightly coat a nonstick skillet with cooking spray and heat over medium-low heat. Add the 1/4-1 large apple (diced into cubes), a teaspoon of brown sugar, a teaspoon of cinnamon, and a splash of water. Cook for 7–10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the apples are tender and the liquid becomes syrupy. Add another splash of water as needed to prevent sticking.
Let cool slightly, then spoon over the frosted oatmeal. Makes enough for a small topping on all 4 servings.

Frequently Asked Questions
What If I Don’t Have Oven-Safe Meal Prep Containers?
Use a greased 8×8-inch baking dish and divide into four servings after baking. Bake at 350°F until the edges are set and the center no longer has loose liquid. Baking time may differ from the individual containers, so use those doneness cues as your guide. Store the frosting separately and add it after reheating.
Can I Use a Different Protein Powder?
Yes, but flavor, sweetness, and thickness can vary by brand. This frosting was tested with Naked Nutrition’s unflavored whey. Compare serving weights rather than scoop counts when substituting, since scoop sizes differ.
What Consistency Should the Frosting Be?
Soft, creamy, and spreadable. Use softened cream cheese and thick Greek yogurt, and mix the cream cheese until smooth before adding the other ingredients. Add any extra liquid sparingly so the frosting doesn’t become runny.
